About Katakhali Empowerment and Youth Association
Katakhali Empowerment & Youth Association (KEYA) started working in March 1999 with some young girls & women from the underprivileged communities in the Sunderban region of North 24 Parganas of West Bengal. Having started with awareness generation programmes, the organisation gradually grew up and got registered in 2006. The organisation is being operated under the guidance of its Governing Body and supported by the General Body members.
KEYA is a non-political, non-profit making social organization and has been working for the upliftment of the most marginalized and oppressed section of society since its inception with a few handful of energetic and enthusiastic youth the various social programmes were undertaken to establish the structure of the organizational activities within the village.
As it is a rural-based organization the organized youth power seemed to be undermined for a greater reason at the primary impact of cohesion but gradually it goes beyond the comprehension of social solidarity. It was focused on forming a community to encourage every distressed woman and child to grow in health, peace education and dignity. So it was considered to extend the programmes for its sustainability, which can have an impact on the community. The partnership with other agencies has been built to undertake the great mission in implementation to uphold the effort in social interest.
The organisaion has been working through a victim-centric and right based approach of addressing the survivors of human trafficking is the major focus for the organisation. The organisation has a strong presence in bottom-up systemic engagement, focused on developing each individual while building supportive mechanisms for them in their environments & strengthening the justice delivery system. The organization has established a meaningful collaborative partnership with the District and State authorities for the reintegration of the survivors.
